Crochet Snoods

I just bought my new crochet snood and it looks lumpy/stiff/puffy on my head what should I do?

Your snood needs time to adjust to your head. Continue to wear it as is, and it will adjust to the particular contours of your head. If you wish to accelerate the process of the snood's adjustment, wear it in a light drizzle or with slightly damp hair. However, if trying this, be very careful not to overdo the "dampness" as to much wetness can cause the snood to stretch.

How should I wash my crochet snood?

Any crochet snood that we carry that can be machine washed carries a label saying as much. If it does not carry such a label, then it should be hand washed cold in the sink with a gentle detergent and then laid flat (in a round circle) on a towel to dry. Make sure not to hang your snood as this will cause it to stretch.

How often should I wash my crochet snood?

How often you wish to wash your crochet snood is dependent upon you, however, each time that you wash it, it will lose some of its crispness and will stretch that much faster.

Can I sleep in my crochet snood?
We recommend designating one snood for sleeping, in order to keep the ones you wear during the day looking their best.

Can I wear my crochet snood with wet hair?

Wearing your crochet snood with wet hair will accelerate the stretching process.

Why is the lining on my snood so big?

Since the crochet snoods do stretch somewhat, as the snood stretches, the lining will end up being the right size for your snood.

How do I tighten my crochet snood?

There is an elastic band running through the edge of the crochet snood. Find the point where it is tied or sewn together, and tie tighter depending on your need. (A note of caution - tightening the elastic even slightly will have a big impact on how tight the snood gets. A good thing to do is to put in a slipknot that you can tighten and loosen as necessary! )

Chenille Snoods

How should I wash my chenille snood?

We carry two types of chenille snoods. One which can be hand washed in cold water according to the method of crochet snoods, while the second one is recommended as dry clean only. Those that are recommended as dry clean only are sold with a label attached indicating as much.

My snood has a label recommending dry clean only. If I'm in a pinch, can I hand wash it in cold water?

We have heard from customers that they have hand washed (and even machine washed!) these snoods and they came out fine, so if you're in a pinch, we guess it can work, but please remember MyHeadcoverings.com bears no responsibility if things go wrong!

Cotton Blend Snoods

My snood has a label recommending dry clean only. If I'm in a pinch, can I hand wash it in cold water?

We have heard from customers that they have hand washed (and even machine washed!) these snoods and they came out fine, so if you're in a pinch, we guess it can work, but please remember MyHeadcoverings.com bears no responsibility if things go wrong!

Where do I wear the seam on the Cotton Blend Snood?

Your Cotton blend snood is designed with a seam which can be worn in one of two ways. From ear to ear gives a fuller look at the sides, or from forehead to neck which gives an impression of more fullness in the back, and flatter at the sides.

My Cotton Blend snood doesn't lay right on my head

Your Cotton Blend Snood needs "breaking in". Wearing the snood around, and with wet hair will quicken the process. The snood will stretch, and the seam will no longer be so stiff and bumpy after "breaking it in".

All Snoods

I am dealing with hair loss due to various circumstances and wish to know if a snood is a good hair covering for me?

The answer is a most definite yes for many reasons. First of all, Snoods are very good choice due to their high quality and the fact that the snoods we carry are designed to be able to provide complete coverage. Secondly, these snoods come in various different colors with a Lining - a lining running through the whole snood providing comfort and a fullness. We also suggest buying one with a lining because it will provide complete coverage even after the snood stretches. We recommend the same for women with light colored hair.

What are the Differences between different Crochet Snood companies? Crochet Snoods are just like any other piece of clothing different companies use different materials and can have a different fit. Bear in mind that a companies overall quality can vary between different snoods which is one of the reasons we may carry an individual company for the most part but vear off and carry a different comany in a particular crochet snood.

In Crochet Snoods we carry two different companies the main one is Mels Collection which we have found to be of the highest quality overall. One of the reasons we like them is because instead of using Rayon or Poyester threads, they use silk threads (for the most part).

We also carry several pieces from S.G Baretim, a comapany we have found to also be of good quality plus they are extremley innovative in their design making pieces (such as thier Crochet Snoods with beads) that no one else makes.
